SHOULD I TAKE THIS SILENCE AS YES YOU DID?

An unknown caller sent me this text in 2008. Who was it from? Where did they get my number? Why did I not reply? And more importantly what did they think I had done. Was it theft, murder or just the dishes?

Andy Howitt (Choreography)

CHRONOS

Do you think that you are free in life? I think not, because we are all in a jail called Time. This piece is punctuated by pauses, slow motion and sequences that rewind and fast forward combining Street Dance, Contemporary and Breakdance energies. What can happen when the God of Time plays with us?

Daniel Aing (Choreography)

SUBSTRATUM

This piece celebrates the foundation and inspiration YDance provided me with and reflects the happy memories I have of working with the company as a dancer or choreographer since attending the first Scottish Youth Dance Festival in 1988.

Allan Irvine (Choreography)

SAME DESTINATION, DIFFERENT JOURNEY

Inspired by a recent trip to India and Nepal this work explores a fusion of dance styles to create a high energy yet touching piece which takes both the dancers and audience on an emotional rollercoaster. We are always on a journey, short or long, physical or emotional. It can take us far away or take us home. The reason we start may change by the end, the end may only be the beginning. We might never find what we were looking for, or lose ourselves along the way, but there is always a change, big or small, physical or emotional!

THREE SONGS OF LAMENT & CELEBRATION

This work strives to celebrate our presence, while tempering the festivities with the tang of sorrow at the potential of the losses to come. We know what may be coming, but with thoughts of what the future may bring, let us give thanks for our existence. The 3 songs used in this work are in the tradition of Son Huasteco from the eastern part of Mexico. The songs themselves are jubilant in musical form while speaking of sorrow, longing and loss.

Duncan Macfarland (Choreographer)

FREEFALL

What happens if you just let go? Release, cry, laugh, collapse. This energetic yet touching piece explores how holding onto emotions, people or memories alters how we live in the present and impacts on who we are.

Anna Kenrick (Choreographer)

EYE OF THE BEHOLDER

This continuous movement phrase combines group, partner and solo work in an exploration of the notions of focus. Where is the eye drawn? Where can it be made to look?
